Turkish State Opera and Ballet is preparing to stage the world premiere of the ballet “Jeanne d’Arc” in Ankara, bringing the powerful story of the legendary French heroine Joan of Arc to life on stage.
A rehearsal of the new ballet production was held on March 5, 2026, ahead of its official debut. The performance, organized by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet, will present a dramatic and artistic interpretation of Joan of Arc’s extraordinary life and legacy.
The ballet tells the story of Joan of Arc, the courageous 15th-century figure who challenged the norms of medieval Europe by leading French troops during the Hundred Years’ War. Known for her unwavering faith and determination, Joan became a national symbol of bravery after leading several successful military campaigns for France. Despite her achievements, she was eventually captured and executed by burning, a tragic end that turned her into one of history’s most enduring and inspirational figures.
The production features a libretto and choreography created by Amilcar Moret Gonzalez of the Kiel Ballet. His artistic approach aims to combine dramatic storytelling, expressive choreography, and powerful music to reflect both the strength and the emotional depth of Joan of Arc’s journey.
Scheduled to premiere at the Opera Stage on March 7, the performance marks the first time that the story of Joan of Arc will be presented as a ballet by the Ankara State Opera and Ballet. The production is expected to offer audiences a compelling blend of history, culture, and performing arts, highlighting the timeless influence of one of the world’s most iconic historical figures.
