Sotheby’s has unveiled exceptional highlights from its upcoming Modern & Contemporary Evening Sale in London, presenting artworks valued at more than £110 million ahead of the highly anticipated auction on March 4.
During a special photocall at the prestigious London auction house, art handlers carefully displayed two of the most significant works in the sale: Francis Bacon’s Self-Portrait, estimated at £8,000,000–12,000,000, and Paul Signac’s Marseille. Le Port, estimated at £4,000,000–6,000,000.
Bacon’s emotionally charged self-portrait reflects the psychological intensity and raw figurative style that defined his contribution to 20th-century art. In contrast, Signac’s luminous harbor scene exemplifies the brilliance of Pointillism, capturing the Mediterranean light with vibrant, meticulously placed color dots. Together, these works demonstrate the remarkable diversity within modern and contemporary artistic movements.
The exhibition offers collectors, journalists, and art enthusiasts a rare opportunity to preview some of the most important masterpieces of the 20th and 21st centuries. Carefully curated to emphasize both historical importance and artistic innovation, the display traces the evolution of style, technique, and subject matter across generations.
Beyond the individual masterpieces, the preview highlights the scale and ambition of the upcoming auction. Collectors are given time to evaluate potential acquisitions, while Sotheby’s specialists ensure each artwork is handled and presented with the highest level of care and expertise.
With global media attention focused on the event, London once again reinforces its position as a leading center for high-value art sales. The sale underscores Sotheby’s longstanding reputation for excellence and leadership within the international art market.
The Modern & Contemporary Evening Sale is expected to attract significant international bidding, reflecting continued strength and confidence in the global art market despite broader economic uncertainties.
