In Türkiye’s eastern province of Van, Iranian sculptor Ali Mutii is crafting an impressive 3.3-meter-tall sculpture of a pearl mullet using nearly 350 kilograms of scrap metal. Known for his large-scale metal artworks, Mutii transforms discarded materials into striking pieces of art, showcasing both creativity and environmental awareness.
Inside his studio, sparks illuminate the space as Mutii welds and shapes rusted rods, old vehicle parts, and various scrap fragments into the flowing fins, textured scales, and expressive form of the pearl mullet—a culturally and ecologically significant freshwater fish native to Lake Van. The sculpture’s size and intricate detailing highlight the artist’s technical mastery and his dedication to sustainable art practices.
