Göbeklitepe, recognized as the world’s oldest known settlement and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is set to reach international audiences through a major exhibition opening in Germany. The exhibition will present 93 carefully selected artifacts from Göbeklitepe and the surrounding Taş Tepeler region, offering visitors a rare and in-depth look into one of the most important archaeological landscapes in human history.
Designed to highlight the artistic and cultural world of early settled communities, the exhibition is structured around eight thematic sections. These sections trace key aspects of early human life, including birth, daily activities, belief systems, rituals, and death, revealing how the first societies expressed identity, spirituality, and social organization through symbolic objects and artistic craftsmanship.
The displayed artifacts reflect the imagination, technical skill, and worldview of communities living at the dawn of civilization, shedding light on a period that reshaped humanity’s relationship with settlement, culture, and collective life. By presenting these objects within a narrative framework, the exhibition aims to make complex archaeological discoveries accessible to both academic audiences and the wider public.
Set to open in Berlin, the exhibition is expected to attract significant interest from researchers, historians, and visitors alike. Beyond its scholarly importance, the event also plays a key role in strengthening cultural exchange and promoting Türkiye’s rich archaeological heritage on the global stage, reinforcing Göbeklitepe’s status as a cornerstone of world history.
