Bangladeshi Mother Gives Birth to Quintuplets in Barishal

Lamia, a Bangladeshi woman, gave birth to quintuplets at Advocate Hemayet Uddin Ahmed Diabetic & General Hospital in Barishal, Bangladesh, on October 7, 2025, in what local medical staff are calling an extremely rare and remarkable case. Doctors had initially anticipated the arrival of triplets based on earlier scans, but to their surprise, Lamia delivered five babies through a normal vaginal delivery — an uncommon outcome even in multiple births.

Lamia and her husband, Sohel, had been hoping to start a family for nearly four years and had reportedly undergone various consultations and treatments before the pregnancy. The unexpected arrival of five babies has drawn attention from both the local community and medical professionals across the region.

Following the delivery, the infants — believed to include both boys and girls — were placed under close medical supervision due to their low birth weights and the high-risk nature of multiple births. The newborns have been distributed between different hospitals and neonatal care units in Barishal to ensure they receive adequate monitoring, ventilation support if needed, and access to incubators. According to hospital authorities, all five babies are currently in stable condition but remain under continuous observation.

Lamia is also being monitored closely to ensure her postnatal recovery progresses safely, especially considering the physical strain involved in delivering quintuplets. Hospital officials have praised the medical team for their quick response and coordinated care efforts. Family members and relatives have gathered at the hospital, expressing both joy and concern as they await further updates.

Multiple births of this scale are extremely rare in Bangladesh, and the case has sparked public interest and media coverage. Health experts have highlighted the importance of proper nutrition, postpartum support, and long-term medical follow-up for both the mother and the infants. Local residents, moved by the family’s story, have reportedly begun offering support, and authorities are considering any necessary assistance due to the financial and caregiving demands of raising five newborns at once.

For Lamia and Sohel, the birth marks not only the end of years of waiting but also the beginning of a new and challenging chapter. Doctors say the coming days will be critical, but early signs are encouraging, with both the mother and the babies in stable condition under the care of experienced medical staff.
