Barcelona officially launched its holiday season, as thousands of residents and visitors gathered along Passeig de Gracia for the annual Christmas lights switching ceremony. Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni and Bethlehem Mayor Nicola Canawati attended the event, marking a symbolic cultural connection between the two cities. The newly illuminated light displays, designed specifically for this year, brightened the central avenue and will remain in place until January 6 as part of the city’s festive programme.
The celebration featured a large staged performance combining live music, aerial choreography, and acrobatic acts by performers dressed in red and white striped costumes. Street entertainers, children’s choirs, and local dance groups also performed throughout the evening, while nearby shops extended their hours and offered seasonal promotions. Food stalls, Christmas market booths, and family-friendly activities added to the atmosphere, making the event one of Barcelona’s most vibrant holiday kick-offs in recent years.
